THE WHAT? Net-a-Porter is dipping its toe in the fine art world via a partnership with online platform AP8, with art being sold via Net’s homeware category beginning 2nd May, according to WWD.com.
THE DETAILS Contemporary works will be sold on the predominately fashion and beauty site, with Net-a-Porter stating it wants to ‘bridge the gap’ between the physical and digital art worlds.
The site will offer a series of drops from a selection of artists, with the collaboration launching with 10 framed Guy Bourdin prints, exclusive to Net-a-Porter.
Digitally verified, there will be less than 100 units of each piece, and will retail for £1500.
The partnership will drop new artists every three months.
THE WHY? The cross-industry marriage is said to be Net-a-Porter’s first step into the art world, with Lea Cranfield, Chief Buying and Merchandising Officer at Net-a-porter, saying they, “look forward to many more.”
She continued, “For the launch of Art at Net-a-porter, our aim is to deliver our customers the same world-class level of curation and expertise that’s synonymous with our entire buy. Our partnership with ap8.art, a true innovator in this space, brings our global customers an incredible selection of unique and collectible photographs from the iconic Guy Bourdin.”
