THE WHAT? Oars + Alps could be forced to defend its claim that its products are ‘natural’ in court after a proposed class action charged the SC Johnson-owned brand of deceiving consumers, according to a report published by Class Action.
THE DETAILS The 38-page suit claims that the products are mis-labelled as ‘natural’ given that they contain multiple synthetic ingredients, including phenoxyethanol, dimethicone, caprylyl glycol, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, propanediol and ethylhexylglyceron.
THE WHY? The suit argues that a ‘reasonable consumer’ understands the term ‘natural’ to mean that a product lacks any synthetic ingredients and, further, the FDA warned manufacturers that the term must not be misleading.
