THE WHAT? L’Oréal has unveiled its breakthrough sun filtering technology that is said to protect skin from ultra-long UVA rays. The French beauty giant has dubbed the new innovation UVMune 400.

THE DETAILS Described as L’Oréal’s biggest sun care innovation in 30 years, the new technology will make its debut in La Roche Posay’s Anthelios franchise.

UVMune 400 was 10 years in development. To date, the work has been the subject of 6 scientific publications. The technology’s performance engine, the patented Mexoryl 400 filter, has also been designed to present an improved environmental profile.

THE WHY? Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L’Oréal, explains, “Our L’Oréal R&I teams have successfully risen to the real scientific challenge of inventing a sun filtering technology to cover the UVA zone that was so far less covered. This allows us to provide our broadest filtration and protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun, even the most insidious. This discovery is fully in line with the Group’s approach of providing answers to public health issues, such as the risks linked to skin exposure to UV radiation.”
