THE WHAT? AmorePacific has launched the Ryo Black Double Effector Shampoo, which is said to be a non-toxic hair dying shampoo, according to Korea Joon Gang Daily.

THE DETAILS The launch follows the ban of a similar product, Pro-Change Black, by cosmetics company Moda Moda, due to the use of 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene (THB).

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety stated that the 1,2,4-THB can damage genetic information in cells and cause skin sensitization.

THE WHY? AmorePacific stated that its new product does not contain 1,2,4-THB and instead uses extracts from black ginseng, black soybeans and kuduzu root.

The company has followed local safety regulations for the production of the shampoo, with Germany’s dermatology lab Dermatest, certifying it with the highest “Excellent” rank.
