THE WHAT? Things are looking up for GSK after it listed its consumer health care business on the London stock exchange yesterday. Trading for Haleon, as the demerged firm has been named, opened at 330p, placing the company’s value at £30.5 billion.

THE DETAILS The flotation is the City’s largest since 2011 and the manufacturer of Sensodyne will join GSK on the FTSE 100. GSK is also riding high on the back of a successful late-stage trial for a new vaccine for RSV.

THE WHY? The Guardian, quoting Victoria Scholar, Head of Investment at Interactive Investor, reports that despite high inflation in both the UK and US, health care and consumer staples have traditionally proven more resilient in the face of recessions.
