THE WHAT? A group of some 250 luxury British brands is petitioning the UK government to bring back tax-free shopping, according to a report published by Bloomberg.

THE DETAILS Walpole, which represents the interests of hundreds of UK-based brands including Burberry and Harrods, claims that the reintroduction of duty-free allowances will boost sales by £1,2 billion a year and up visitor numbers by 600,000.

THE WHY? Walpole CEO, Helen Brocklebank stated in a report, per Bloomberg, “If the UK is to be restored as the world’s number one luxury destination, then it’s clear we need a coherent strategy and policy changes to get us there.”
